At a crossroads, so to speak, in my reading

The Sunday Salon.com

Last week I said I was going to attempt to finish off the last five books in the Jack Taylor series before Nov. 1, because I already have my first few books set up for November and I wanted to get started on them right away. Again, they are There Goes The Galaxy by Jenn Thorson, Mercury Rises by Rob Kroese and Sticky Readers: How To Attract a Loyal Blog Audience by Writing More Better by Margaret Andrews. And I did attempt it, but only am at the second of the five, Cross, and still have three more to go.

After this one, which I should finish tomorrow, I think I’m going to take a break from Bruen’s Taylor for a while and go for Thorson’s Bertram Ludlow to start the month. As much as I like Jack, the stories in which he becomes involved aren’t the most uplifting stories, not that they don’t have their humor: dark humor. I’m hoping that Ludlow’s stories can lift me up…and seeing as they’re set in space, I don’t think that will be a problem. I’ve read about 15 pages into Jenn’s book and already am hooked.

Other than those three books, I don’t have a lot on my radar for the month of November. Perhaps I finally will get to A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami, which has been setting on my Nook ready for a re-read for several months. Or the second volume of The Complete Sherlock Holmes also on my Nook. Or continue the Song of Fire and Ice series by George R.R. Martin that began with A Game of Thrones. However, I’m thinking that those latter two anyway might be reading for the long, cold winter ahead…to start in late December or early January. Whatever I choose, I’ll keep y’all posted here.

So what are you reading today? What do you plan to read in the coming month?

I’m debating on my pile for the month. I don’t know if I want to read the Christie that I didn’t get to this month, or delve into the massive amounts of historical fiction I have.

If you can believe it, I’ve never read Sherlock Holmes. I think I have Volume I of the collection on my Nook though. I’ll get to that eventually I think…I hope. :]

If you’re getting to Agatha Christie, you definitely will get to Sherlock Holmes, I have no doubt. My vote is for Christie, by the way.

I’ve been immersing myself in comfort reads – right now, it’s the third Caster Chronicles book, Beautiful Chaos. Nothing like YA paranormal involving incubuses (incubi?), sucubuses, witches, dark and light magic – for perfect Halloween reading.

I’ve heard so many good things about the Game of Thrones series that my curiosity has been piqued. I’ll have to check it out someday. I’ve got some review copies to read for November but not a lot lined up for December, so I’m excited about that but haven’t decided which books I’m going to read. It’s going to be very spur of the moment.

Amazingly, I don’t have any reading plans on November yet. I have a stack of library books that are unread but I might just return them without bothering to read them. Right now I’m reading Willpower by Roy L. Braumeister. I’m hoping to finish it before my ebook expires in a few hours. :-/

So did you finish it?

Well, in addition to 1Q i am just starting The Winters in Bloom and I really must start (for real this time), The Art of Fielding. I started it twice and each time got distracted by another book. Come Thanksgiving, I will be reading King’s new one (11/22/63). I really wish King has given that book a real title.

I might be getting 1Q84 sooner than I thought. Our local bookstore has a new website and I can order it through there, even an ebook. However, I probably still won’t be reading it until later :P .

Isn’t 11/22/63 a real title? Hmmm….
