Eating The Frog 1: Goal-setting
November 28, 2011 — books, Brian Tracy, diet, Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time, exercise, goals, lists, motivation, Motivational speaking, procrastination
As I mentioned earlier this month, I discovered Eat That Frog! 21 Great Ways To Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time by Brian Tracy, a self-help author and motivational speaker. The title of the book comes from the quote from Mark Twain:
If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.
I said in that earlier post that per Tracy’s recommendation in the book, I was going to write down my goals. However, at that time, I didn’t. As usual, I procrastinated. Finally, today I did as Tracy suggested and took a sheet of paper and listed 10 goals I want to accomplish in the next year.
Then I reviewed the list and selected the one goal that, if achieved, would have the greatest positive impact on my life, using the present tense, positive voice and first person so that as Tracy says “they are immediately accepted by your subconscious mind.” I then wrote that on another sheet of paper, set a deadline, made a plan, am taking action on that plan and plan to do something every day that moves me toward that goal.
That one goal: I weigh 160 pounds.
I am at about 220 pounds now.
The deadline: June 30, 2011, based on losing roughly two pounds per week.
How I will do it:
- I will walk/jog/run every day.
- I will eat breakfast every day.
- I will pre-plans meals.
- I will not drink soda during the week.
At least, that is where I will start. Beyond that, we’ll see…
